How to Navigate Roundabouts in Serres Correctly: Lanes and Priority

Vasilis Mountziaris — Head Instructor18 Ιαν 20266 min read

Navigating roundabouts in Serres requires careful observation of road signage, disciplined lane choice, and timely communication with other road users. Correct driving behavior is not based on a single generic formula for every junction, but on reading the specific signage, road markings, and geometry of each roundabout.

1. Signage & Priority: Priority at junctions is determined by existing road signage. Where no regulatory signs exist, the general right-hand priority rule applies, subject to statutory exceptions. Before entering a roundabout, reduce your speed and carefully check signs and lane markings.

2. Lane Selection: The lane you should choose depends on regulatory signs, directional arrows, and the physical configuration of the junction. Select the correct lane early for your intended route and never change lanes without verifying it is safe to do so.

3. Indicator Signaling: Use direction indicators well in advance before any turn or lane change to clearly communicate your intentions. When exiting a roundabout, signal your exit in good time after verifying the maneuver can be completed safely.

4. Pedestrian & Traffic Awareness: Do not focus solely on circulating traffic. Continuously scan mirrors, pedestrian crossings, and peripheral movement, adapting your speed accordingly.

At Vasilis Mountziaris Driving School, we train on the real roundabouts of Serres so you learn to read signage accurately and adapt smoothly to varying junction configurations.
